Quick answer: Picking a tea tree oil manufacturer in India? Price comes last, honestly. First, is it really Melaleuca alternifolia? Next, does the COA pass ISO 4730? You want terpinen-4-ol at 30 to 48 percent and 1,8-cineole below 15. Then, is the batch fresh, kept sealed and out of light? And will they send COA plus MSDS every single lot? Get a sample. Then order.

Picture a brand with a new tea tree anti-dandruff shampoo. The first batch sells well. The second batch smells sharper, and two weeks later the reviews start mentioning a burning scalp.
Nothing changed in the formula. The tea tree oil did.
That's the most common story we hear from brands that come to us after a bad supplier. We supply tea tree oil in bulk from our facility in Panipat, and this guide is what we wish every buyer knew before their first order.
Who buys bulk tea tree oil in India?
Mostly brands making hair and skin products. Dandruff shampoos, sometimes conditioners too. Scalp serums. Hair oils. Acne gels and face washes. Beard oils. Soaps, both handmade and commercial.
Aromatherapy brands fill pure tea tree into bottles with their own name on them. Salons and spas buy it by the kilo, because 10 ml bottles just don't last a week there.
They don't all worry about the same thing. Soap makers want the scent to make it through curing. Shampoo brands lose sleep over one batch smelling different from the last. Serum brands? Irritation, every time. What follows works for all of them.
Where does tea tree oil sold in India actually come from?
This is worth asking any tea tree oil manufacturer in India directly.
Australia is where Melaleuca alternifolia comes from. Most of the planet's tea tree oil still gets made there. China and South Africa also grow and distil it. India doesn't have a large commercial tea tree crop.
So most tea tree oil sold in India, including by Indian manufacturers, starts as imported oil. So the real difference between suppliers starts after the oil lands. Do they test it when it arrives? How do they store it? How do they repack it? What documents travel with it?
Supplier goes vague when you ask about origin? Or says it's Indian-grown Melaleuca alternifolia but can't show you anything? Keep asking.
What specs should bulk tea tree oil meet?
There's an international standard for this, ISO 4730. It spells out what tea tree oil should contain. Two numbers matter most.
First, terpinen-4-ol. Somewhere from 30 to 48 percent. This is the compound doing most of the antifungal and antibacterial work. Comes in under 30? Then the oil's either weak or it's been cut with something.
Second, 1,8-cineole, which needs to stay below 15. It's the compound most linked to skin irritation. High cineole is a red flag for any product that touches skin.
Every bulk lot should come with a COA showing both values, along with the batch number, appearance, relative density and refractive index. Ask for the MSDS too.
Your nose helps a bit too. Good tea tree looks clear or slightly yellow. It smells fresh and medicinal, a little like camphor. Smells like turpentine? It's probably old, or oxidised.
Why does a fresh batch matter so much?
Old tea tree isn't the same oil anymore. Air changes it.
Leave it in heat or light, or let air at it, and some of what's inside starts breaking down. The new compounds that form are far more likely to trigger skin allergy. Studies on tea tree allergy keep landing on the same point. It's the aged oil causing trouble, mostly. Fresh oil, much less.
What does that mean for you? Buy from someone who keeps stock sealed and full, in a cool dark place. Then do the same yourself. Lids shut tight. No half-empty drums hanging around for months. First in, first out.
Making something that stays on skin? Think about an antioxidant in the formula, and don't promise a shelf life you can't keep. The consumer side of all this, the irritation and allergy part, is in tea tree oil for hair side effects.
What packaging should bulk tea tree oil come in?
For bulk, aluminium bottles or lacquered steel drums are the safest. They block light completely and don't react with the oil. Decent HDPE is fine for smaller lots you'll use quickly. Over long storage, though, tea tree can soften some plastics.
Glass? Okay in small amounts. It's heavy, and it cracks in transit. Amber glass is the standard for retail bottles.
Whatever you choose, fill it up near the brim. A drum that's mostly air is oxidising your oil a little more every day.
How much tea tree will your product actually need?
This decides how much you need to buy, so it's worth knowing early.
The famous dandruff trial used a 5 percent tea tree shampoo. Plenty of brands on the shelf put in way less, under 1 percent, really just for the smell. Planning to claim it fights dandruff? Then aim closer to what was tested.
Serums, hair oils, beard oils, anything that stays on? Usually 1 to 2 percent. Facial products usually sit at the lower end. The reference book Essential Oil Safety, by Robert Tisserand and Rodney Young, puts the upper skin limit at 15 percent. You'll never need to go close.

What should you ask a supplier before you sign?
Before you sign with any tea tree oil manufacturer in India, get a sample. And the COA for that exact batch, the one you'll actually be shipped. Not a generic COA from last year.
Melaleuca alternifolia should be written on every document. Every one. Then ask where it came from, and how long it's been sitting in their warehouse.
Ask about MOQ. Lead time. And what happens if a batch fails your own check when it arrives. Good suppliers answer that last one without hesitating.
Look at their certifications. Ask if they'll help with your compliance documents. Selling cosmetics in India means your labels have to follow the Cosmetics Rules, 2020 (these sit under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940).

Very little. Almost all of it is imported, mostly from Australia. Indian suppliers then test it, store it and repack it.
Which ISO standard covers tea tree oil?
ISO 4730. It lists what the oil should contain. Terpinen-4-ol, 30 to 48 percent. 1,8-cineole, under 15.
How small can a bulk tea tree order be?
Depends who you ask. Ours starts at 1 kg. Bigger drums are available for brands.

Sealed, full, cool and dark, roughly two years is normal. Open it and leave it half empty, and that drops fast.
Can I sell tea tree oil under my own brand in India?
Yes. Label it according to the Cosmetics Rules, 2020. And collect a COA and MSDS from your supplier for every batch.
Which tea tree oil manufacturer in India should you go with?
Forget price per kilo for a minute. A good tea tree oil manufacturer in India hands over a COA for your actual batch, and it passes ISO 4730. They store it right. They pack it so light can't get in. They send a sample before you pay. We test and pack tea tree every week inside a certified manufacturing unit. The brands that get it right? They read the COA as closely as they sniff the bottle.
