Quick answer: Gourmand fragrance oils recreate sweet, edible scents such as vanilla, chocolate, caramel, butterscotch, coffee, and bakery notes for candles, soap, body care, and home fragrance. Many gourmand oils contain vanillin, which turns cold process and melt and pour soap tan to dark brown over time, so use a vanilla colour stabiliser or plan darker designs. In candles, typical loads are 6 to 10 percent; always check the IFRA limit for skin-contact products.
Gourmand scents are some of the best sellers in candles and bath products because they feel familiar and comforting. This collection covers 23 gourmand fragrance oils, from single notes like vanilla and caramel to dessert accords like birthday cake and strawberry shortcake.
Gourmand fragrance oils are blended aroma compounds built around edible notes: vanilla, sugar, chocolate, caramel, nuts, coffee, fruit, and baked goods. They are fragrance oils, not flavourings, so they are made for candles, soap, and cosmetics and are not for food use.
Vanilla Fragrance Oil is the base of most gourmand ranges and blends well with woods and florals. Chocolate Fragrance Oil and Caramel Fragrance Oil suit winter and Diwali candles. Cappuccino Fragrance Oil is popular for cafe-style candles and wax melts. Strawberry Shortcake Fragrance Oil and Birthday Cake Fragrance Oil are used for gift and kids themes. Honey and Milk Fragrance Oil is a gentle choice for soap and body care.
Vanillin, the main aroma compound in vanilla notes, discolours in soap over days to weeks, turning white bars tan or brown. The higher the vanillin content, the darker the result. Use a vanilla colour stabiliser, keep the vanilla-heavy part of the bar in a darker layer, or choose low-vanillin gourmand oils for white soap.
Add the oil to melted wax at the temperature your wax supplier recommends, usually around 80 to 85 degrees Celsius for soy, at 6 to 10 percent load. Stir for two minutes so the fragrance binds fully, pour, and let soy candles cure for one to two weeks before testing hot throw. Sweet notes can seem strong cold but soften when burning, so test before scaling.
