Every second brand on Instagram is selling a hair oil that'll give you "salon-thick hair in 21 days." Most of them are refined mineral oil with a few drops of something green and a lot of marketing.
We're RV Organica - we cold-press oils in Panipat, Haryana and sell direct. This post covers what each oil in our range actually does, who it suits, and where most people go wrong with hair oiling. No upselling, no ingredient buzzwords that don't mean anything.
Hair Oiling Isn't Just an Old Habit
Hair oiling works - but not for the reasons most people think. Your scalp absorbs; your hair shaft doesn't. Oil sitting on top of hair can't feed it from the inside. What it actually does is coat the surface, slow down moisture loss, and reduce the mechanical damage that happens every time you shampoo.
Pre-wash oiling cuts down on protein loss during washing. When hair gets wet and you start rubbing, it loses protein — that's just friction. An oil coating before you shampoo takes some of that hit. Coconut-based oils do this particularly well because of their molecular structure.
The massage part matters more than people give it credit for. Rubbing oil into your scalp increases blood flow to the follicles. That's the mechanical effect of the massage - the oil just helps reduce friction while you do it. People who skip massaging and just apply oil get maybe half the benefit.
The most common mistake: applying too much, too often, without massaging - then wondering why hair looks weighed down and the scalp feels congested.
The RV Organica Hair Oil Range - Honest Breakdown
We currently make six oils. Here's what each one is actually useful for, and what it won't do:
1. Rosemary Hair Oil - Hair Fall, Slow Growth

Rosemary is probably the most evidence-backed option for hair growth right now. A 2015 clinical trial ran it against 2% minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia - at the six-month mark, both groups showed similar hair count improvement. The rosemary group had less scalp itching.
Our version is cold-pressed rosemary in a lightweight carrier. No sticky residue after it dries - that's usually the complaint with heavier oils.
Good for thinning patches, general hair fall, slow growth. Massage into the scalp, leave it 30-40 minutes before washing. ₹350.
2. Castor Oil - Thickness, Brows, Lashe

Castor oil is dense. It moves slowly, coats heavily - great for edges, eyebrows, lashes, and very dry ends. Not ideal for daily scalp use if your hair is fine or tends to get oily fast, because it builds up.
It has anti-inflammatory properties - the ricinoleic acid. Does that mean faster brow growth for everyone? Probably not in any dramatic way. But people who stick with it on brows and lashes for 6-8 weeks usually notice something. Mix it with a lighter oil like jojoba if you're putting it on your scalp. ₹350.
3. Jamaican Black Castor Oil - Damaged, Dry, Chemically Treated Hair

When castor oil is processed with wood ash, it picks up a higher pH. That changes how it behaves - the cuticle opens slightly, so it gets in faster and feels less heavy than regular castor. That's the actual difference between JBCO and standard castor oil.
It's commonly recommended for bleached or chemically treated hair where the cuticle is already fragile. If regular castor felt too thick on your hair, this one's worth trying. Same family, different texture. ₹350.
4. Vitamin E Oil - Dull, Heat-Damaged Hair, Dry Scalp

Heat tools, pollution, UV - they all cause oxidative damage to your hair's protective lipid layer over time. Vitamin E slows that process down. It won't repair what's already fried.
Nothing topical reverses structural damage. But Vitamin E reduces how fast new damage accumulates - which is worth something if you use heat regularly. Also works on skin and face. ₹350.
5. Tea Tree Hair Oil - Dandruff, Itchy Scalp, Oiliness

Dandruff usually comes from a scalp fungus - Malassezia. Tea tree oil is antifungal, so it goes after the actual cause, not just the flakes. Regular oils don't do this.
Our version is pre-diluted in a carrier, so it's safe to use directly. If you're ever buying raw tea tree essential oil elsewhere, dilute it to 2-5% first - undiluted on the scalp burns. Seriously.
Massage into the scalp before your wash, leave it 20-30 minutes, do this a couple of times a week. ₹350.
6. Batana Oil - Frizz, Dryness, Dull Hair
Batana comes from the American oil palm - used traditionally in Central American hair care, particularly by the Miskito people in Honduras.
High oleic acid content means it gets into the cuticle and smooths it from the inside out — that's why it reduces frizz rather than just coating it down temporarily. Vitamin E content helps with oxidative protection too.
Still not widely available in India. People who add it to their routine tend to notice softer, shinier hair after a few weeks of consistent use. Works well as a pre-wash treatment or on dry ends as a finisher.

How to Actually Oil Your Hair (Where Most People Go Wrong)
Application matters as much as which oil you use. The most common mistakes:
• Applying on wet hair. Wet hair stretches and snaps more easily — the cuticle is raised and the shaft is at its weakest. Apply on dry hair, or towel-dried damp. Not dripping wet.
• Skipping the massage. Five minutes minimum, working across the full scalp. If you're lazy about this (most people are), set a phone timer. The massage does more work than the oil itself.
• Using too much. A few drops worked into the scalp is enough. If it's dripping, you've used too much and you'll need three shampoo rounds to get it out.
• Oiling every day. Twice or three times a week is enough for most people. Oil every day without washing properly and you'll end up with buildup sitting on your follicles — which makes things worse.
• One round of shampoo after heavy oiling. Usually isn't enough. Two rounds, focusing on the scalp, gets it out properly.
• Judging it after a week. Consistent oiling over 6-8 weeks is the minimum to see results. Most people quit too early.
Three Things People Believe About Hair Oil That Aren't True
"More oil means faster growth"
Oil doesn't reach the follicle and trigger growth. Growth is driven by nutrition, hormones, genetics - topical oil doesn't change any of that. What it does is reduce breakage and keep your scalp in better condition. You hold onto more length. That reads as growth, but the mechanism is different.
"Imported oils are better"
Cold-pressed rosemary or castor oil made in India and cold-pressed oil from abroad are chemically the same thing, assuming similar extraction quality. What varies is freshness — a domestically made oil is usually fresher than one that's been in transit and warehouse storage for weeks. What matters is extraction method and purity. The country on the label doesn't.
"It'll work in a few days"
If someone says their oil "worked in 3 days" — what they noticed was shine or softness, not growth. Hair grows around 1-1.5 cm a month. That rate doesn't change because of a topical product. Real changes to density or fall take 6-8 weeks minimum of consistent use. The only thing within your control is whether you keep at it.
A Note on Who We Are
We're a manufacturer, not a reseller. Our facility is in Panipat, Haryana - we cold-press and bottle directly. That means the oils are fresher than what travels through a distributor chain, and the price reflects production cost rather than retail markup.
We also do B2B - bulk orders, OEM formulations, private label - for hair care brands and cosmetic companies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which hair oil is genuinely best for hair growth?
A: Rosemary oil has the most clinical backing right now — a 2015 trial matched it against 2% minoxidil and got comparable results at six months. Castor adds thickness and reduces breakage. Both are topical support, not a fix for underlying causes like stress or hormonal imbalance. For most people starting out, rosemary is the better first choice. Scalp massage, 2-3 times a week, and give it 8 weeks before judging.
Q: Can I use hair oil on dry hair daily?
A: Daily oiling causes buildup on the scalp — which can block follicles and actually set you back. 2-3 times a week is the right frequency for most hair types. If your hair runs very dry, batana and Vitamin E are the two lighter options in our range — they won't sit as heavy between washes.
Q: What's a good hair oil for frizzy hair?
A: Batana oil. It gets into the cuticle rather than just coating the surface, so the smoothing effect lasts longer than regular oils. For coarser or high-porosity frizzy hair, Jamaican Black Castor Oil works well too — it seals better for that hair type. Apply either to slightly damp hair before styling, mid-lengths and ends.
Q: Should I apply oil before or after washing?
A: Before, ideally — 30-60 minutes pre-wash. It reduces protein loss during shampooing and protects the shaft when it's most vulnerable (wet, being rubbed). Post-wash oiling on damp ends is a separate thing; that's about sealing moisture in, not scalp treatment.
Q: Do you supply hair oils in bulk?
A: Yes. We supply cosmetic brands, hair care companies, and personal care manufacturers bulk orders, custom formulations, OEM production, private label. Reach us at info@rvorganica.com .
Bottom Line
Pick the oil that matches your actual problem. Rosemary for growth and hair fall. Castor for thickness and brows. JBCO for damaged or chemically treated hair. Tea tree for dandruff. Batana for frizz. Vitamin E if you're dealing with heat or pollution damage. Using the wrong oil for your hair type and expecting results is where most people get stuck.
