Yellow Mandarin Essential Oil is cold pressed from the peel of ripe, yellow-stage mandarins (Citrus reticulata), with a sweet, zesty, soft and fresh citrus aroma. It is used in diffusers, room sprays, soaps, candles, diluted body oils and fresh citrus perfumery. It is a yellow to bright yellow, thin liquid with a two year shelf life, and COA and MSDS are available on request.

What is yellow mandarin essential oil and how is it made?

Mandarin trees give fruit at different stages of ripeness, and the oil pressed from the peel changes with the stage. Green mandarin oil comes from unripe fruit and smells sharper and greener. Yellow mandarin oil comes from fully ripe, yellow-stage fruit and is sweeter, softer and more rounded. Red mandarin oil comes from the most mature fruit and is the deepest and sweetest. These are all one species, Citrus reticulata, which is why yellow mandarin is closely related to our mandarin essential oil, and each stage is chosen for its own scent.

The oil is not steam distilled. The peel is mechanically pressed so that the oil sacs break open and release their contents, and the oil is then separated from the juice and water. Because no heat is used, the finished oil keeps the fresh, juicy character of the fruit. Its aroma comes mainly from d-limonene at 65 to 75 percent and γ-terpinene at 12 to 18 percent, with methyl N-methylanthranilate, α-pinene and linalool in smaller amounts. Methyl N-methylanthranilate gives mandarin its soft, sweet, slightly floral edge. What does yellow mandarin essential oil smell like?

Yellow mandarin smells sweet, zesty and juicy, like the peel of a ripe mandarin just opened, with a soft floral warmth beneath the zest. It is rounder and gentler than lemon or lime and less sparkling than green mandarin. The scent is bright but never sharp, which makes it easy to blend and easy to live with.

How do you use yellow mandarin essential oil in a diffuser?

Add a few drops to a diffuser for a bright, friendly and fresh atmosphere in living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms and workspaces. Citrus notes fade faster than woody or resinous ones, so top up the diffuser if you want the scent to last through the day. How do you use yellow mandarin essential oil in body oils and bath products?

Always dilute yellow mandarin oil before it touches the skin. It dissolves in alcohol and fixed oils but not in water, so mix it into a carrier oil first. Yes. In soap and body care bases, add it at the level your formulation recommends. The oil is yellow to bright yellow, so it can lightly tint pale bases. In candles and room sprays, test a small batch first, because citrus scents are light and scent throw changes with wax type and wick size. In perfumery it works as a sweet, juicy top note that opens a blend, and it pairs well with lavender, bergamot, neroli, frankincense, ylang ylang, grapefruit, clary sage and geranium. The botanical name is Citrus reticulata, the CAS number is 8008-31-9 and the FEMA number is 2657. The oil has a relative density of 0.850 at 25°C, a refractive index of 1.472, a flash point above 38°C, an acid value of up to 1.0 mg KOH/g and moisture content of up to 0.3 percent. It is a thin liquid, yellow to bright yellow, with a characteristic sweet, zesty, citrusy and fresh mandarin odour. How should you store yellow mandarin essential oil?

Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place away from heat, flames and direct sunlight. Cold pressed citrus oils oxidise faster than most other essential oils, so close the cap straight after each use and avoid leaving the bottle half empty for long periods. Stored well, the oil keeps its quality for the full two year shelf life.
