Coriander Essential Oil is steam distilled from the dried seeds of Coriandrum sativum, with a fresh, sweet, spicy and woody-floral aroma led by linalool. It is used diluted in perfumes, soaps, body oils, deodorant recipes, candles and diffuser blends, where it works as a soft, warm spice note. It is a colourless to pale yellow, thin liquid with a two year shelf life, and COA and MSDS are available on request.
RV Organica’s Coriander Essential Oil is an Indian-origin oil steam distilled from dried coriander seeds, packed at our facility in Nimbri, Panipat, Haryana, and offered in sizes from 100 ml to 20 kg.
Coriander is a common culinary herb, and its small, round, dried seeds are the familiar coriander spice. For the oil, the seeds are crushed and steam is passed through them. The steam carries the volatile aroma compounds away, and when it cools, the oil separates from the water and is collected. No solvents are used. This oil is made from the seeds, which botanically are the fruits, and it is different from coriander leaf or cilantro oil, which is made from the fresh green herb and smells much sharper and more aldehydic.
The scent comes mainly from linalool at 60 to 80 percent and camphor at 3 to 8 percent, with geranyl acetate, α-pinene and limonene in smaller amounts. Linalool gives coriander seed oil its smooth, sweet, floral-woody warmth, while camphor adds a faint, cool, fresh edge. ISO 3516:1997 specifies characteristics used to assess the quality of coriander fruit oil, and the COA for your batch is the document to read against it. Linalool is also among the fragrance allergens that EU cosmetics rules require makers to declare on labels above set thresholds.
Coriander seed oil smells fresh, sweet and gently spicy, with a woody-floral heart and a light citrus-like lift, like freshly crushed coriander seeds. It is rounder and sweeter than black pepper and softer than ginger. It brings a clean, warm, slightly floral spice to a blend without turning heavy.
Add a few drops to a diffuser for a warm, sweet and herbaceous atmosphere. It suits living rooms, kitchens and workspaces, and it works well in autumn and winter blends. For a bright, sophisticated mix, pair it with bergamot essential oil, or with clary sage essential oil for a smooth, herbal-floral one. For a deeper spice accord, add a little black pepper essential oil. Our spice oils collection has more ideas for pairing.
Always dilute coriander oil before it touches the skin. It dissolves in alcohol and fixed oils but not in water, so mix it into a carrier oil first. The right ratio depends on how much you are making and where it will be used, and our essential oil dilution calculator works it out for you. Once diluted, it adds a warm, sweet-spicy note to massage oils, body oils, lotions and bath products. In soap and body care bases, add it at the level your formulation recommends. Do a patch test first and avoid direct sunlight on treated skin.
Yes. In natural deodorant recipes and body sprays, it gives a fresh, clean, lightly spicy scent. In candles and room sprays, test a small batch first, because light spice scents are delicate and scent throw changes with wax type and wick size. In perfumery it works as a soft spice-floral top-to-heart note, and it pairs well with bergamot, clary sage, frankincense, sandalwood, jasmine, neroli, cardamom and ginger. It is a natural fit for fresh, aromatic and oriental compositions.
The botanical name is Coriandrum sativum, the CAS number is 8008-52-4 and the FEMA number is 2334. The oil has a specific gravity of 0.876, a refractive index of 1.463, a flash point above 62°C, an acid value of up to 1.0 mg KOH/g and moisture content of up to 0.3 percent. It is a thin liquid, colourless to pale yellow, with a characteristic fresh, sweet, spicy and woody-floral coriander seed odour. The shelf life is two years, and the oil is soluble in alcohol and fixed oils and insoluble in water.
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place away from heat and direct sunlight. The linalool in coriander oil oxidises with air and light, and oxidised oil is more likely to irritate the skin, so close the cap straight after each use and use the oil within its shelf life. Stored well, the oil keeps its quality for the full two year shelf life.
Coriander essential oil is for external use only. Do not ingest it. Always dilute it in a carrier oil before applying it to the skin, do a patch test first, and avoid direct sunlight on treated skin. Keep it away from children and pets, and consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant or nursing. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Yes. The oil is available in 100 ml, 500 ml, 1 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg and 20 kg packs, which suits home users, small makers and manufacturers. COA and MSDS can be requested for each batch. For wholesale or private label enquiries, write to info@rvorganica.com.
