Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil is steam distilled from the dried leaves and flowering tops of Origanum majorana, with a warm, sweet, herbaceous and lightly spicy aroma. It is used in diffusers, diluted massage and body oils, bath blends, soaps, candles and herbal perfumery. It is a thin, pale yellow to amber liquid with a two year shelf life, and COA and MSDS are available on request.
Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil is the aromatic oil recovered from sweet marjoram leaves and flowering tops by steam distillation. RV Organica’s Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil is an Indian-origin, thin, pale yellow to amber liquid with a soft, herbal, slightly camphoraceous scent, packed at our facility in Nimbri, Panipat, Haryana, and offered in sizes from 100 ml to 25 kg.
Sweet marjoram is a bushy, aromatic herb of the mint family, grown for its small grey-green leaves and clusters of flowering tops, which are dried before distillation. Steam is passed through the dried herb and carries the volatile aroma compounds away. As the steam cools, the oil separates from the water and is collected. No solvents are used.
It is easy to confuse marjoram with its relatives. Sweet marjoram, Origanum majorana, is softer and sweeter than wild marjoram or oregano, Origanum vulgare, and it is a different plant from Spanish marjoram, Thymus mastichina. Our specification lists terpinen-4-ol at 20 to 35 percent and γ-terpinene at 15 to 25 percent, along with sabinene, α-terpineol and linalool. Terpinen-4-ol gives the oil its warm, woody-herbal depth, while γ-terpinene and sabinene add a fresh, peppery lift. The COA for your batch shows the exact profile.
Sweet marjoram smells warm, herbaceous and sweet, with a gentle spicy edge and a slightly woody, camphor-like freshness. It is softer than rosemary and sweeter than thyme, with a rounded, comforting character like freshly dried herbs. In blends it adds a calm, earthy warmth that settles floral, citrus and minty notes.
Add a few drops to a diffuser for a warm, soft and herbal atmosphere. It suits evening routines, bedrooms, living rooms and quiet spaces, and it works especially well in cooler months. For a soft floral-herbal mix, blend it with lavender essential oil, or with bergamot essential oil for a brighter citrus one. Our diffuser oils collection has more combinations to try.
Always dilute marjoram oil before it touches the skin. It dissolves in alcohol and fixed oils but not in water, so mix it into a carrier oil first. The right ratio depends on how much you are making and where it will be used, and our essential oil dilution calculator works it out for you. Once diluted, it adds a warm herbal note to massage oils, body oils, balms and bath blends. Browse our body massage oils to see how warm herbal scents are used in body care. To use it in a bath, mix it into a carrier oil or suitable base first.
Yes. In soap and body care bases, add it at the level your formulation recommends. In candles and room sprays, test a small batch first, because herbal scents are light and scent throw changes with wax type and wick size. In perfumery it works as a soft herbal-spicy heart note and pairs well with lavender, bergamot, cedarwood, chamomile, cypress, eucalyptus, rosemary and tea tree. It is a natural fit for fougère-style, herbal and aromatic compositions.
The botanical name is Origanum majorana, the CAS number is 84082-58-6 and the FEMA number is 2663. The oil has a relative density of 0.896 at 25°C, a refractive index of 1.471, a flash point above 60°C, an acid value of up to 1.0 mg KOH/g and moisture content of up to 0.3 percent. It is a thin liquid, pale yellow to amber, with a characteristic warm, herbaceous, spicy and sweet marjoram odour. The shelf life is two years, and the oil is soluble in alcohol and fixed oils and insoluble in water.
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place away from heat and direct sunlight. Close the cap straight after each use, because air and light speed up oxidation and dull the aroma over time. Stored well, the oil keeps its quality for the full two year shelf life.
Sweet marjoram essential oil is for external use only. Do not ingest it. Always dilute it in a carrier oil before applying it to the skin, do a patch test first, and avoid direct sunlight on treated skin. Keep it away from children and pets, and avoid use during pregnancy. If you are nursing or have any medical condition, consult a doctor before use. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Yes. The oil is available in 100 ml, 500 ml, 1 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg, 20 kg and 25 kg packs, which suits home users, small makers and manufacturers. COA and MSDS can be requested for each batch. For wholesale or private label enquiries, write to info@rvorganica.com.
