Civet Essential Oil is a nature-identical civet accord, a blend of macrocyclic musks and aroma chemicals that recreates the warm, deep, animalic and musky scent of natural civet without any animal material. Perfumers use it in very small amounts as a base note and fixative in perfumes, attars, oriental and amber blends. It is a pale yellow to amber liquid of thin to medium consistency with a two year shelf life, and COA and MSDS are available on request.
RV Organica’s Civet Essential Oil is a formulated accord packed at our facility in Nimbri, Panipat, Haryana, and offered in sizes from 50 ml to 10 kg.
Natural civet is a waxy secretion collected from civet cats, and it has been used in perfumery for centuries to give blends warmth, depth and a skin-like sensuality. Because collecting it involves keeping and handling live animals, modern perfumery has largely moved to recreated versions. Civetone, the compound responsible for much of natural civet’s character, was identified in 1915, and civetone-type musks can now be made in the laboratory.
Our Civet Essential Oil follows this route. It is made by blending macrocyclic musks and nature-identical aroma chemicals, including civetone-type compounds, to recreate the scent of natural civet. It contains no animal material. In trade it is sold under the name civet essential oil, but it is an accord, not a distilled oil from a plant. The COA for your batch shows the composition of that batch.
Civet smells warm, deep and animalic, with a rich, musky, slightly leathery character that surprises people at full strength. Diluted, it softens into a warm, sweet, skin-like and glowing note. It is not meant to be smelled on its own. In a blend it gives florals and woods a living, sensual depth, and it extends the life of the whole composition.
Civet is a base note and fixative, used in tiny amounts. It pairs naturally with sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, oudh, rose, jasmine, frankincense, amber and black musk. Use it in roll-ons, solid perfumes and attar-style compositions, and explore our attars collection for ideas on traditional blending. Start with a very low percentage, let the blend rest for a few days, and adjust, because the effect strengthens as the blend matures.
Always dilute civet oil before it touches the skin. It dissolves in alcohol and fixed oils, so mix it into a carrier oil or a perfumer’s alcohol first. The right ratio depends on how much you are making and where it will be used, and our essential oil dilution calculator works it out for you. Once diluted, it can be applied lightly to the wrists or neck as part of a personal fragrance blend. Do a patch test first and avoid direct sunlight on treated skin. For finished cosmetic and fragrance products, keep usage within the limits set by the IFRA standards for your product category.
Yes, in very small amounts. In soap and body care bases, add it at the level your formulation recommends. In candles, test a small batch first, because deep musky notes behave differently in wax and scent throw changes with wax type and wick size. It works best as a background note in oriental, woody and amber blends rather than as the leading scent.
The oil has a relative density of 0.968 at 25°C, a refractive index of 1.488, a flash point above 85°C, an acid value of up to 3.0 mg KOH/g and moisture content of up to 0.3 percent. It is a liquid of thin to medium consistency, pale yellow to amber, with a characteristic animalic, musky, warm, deep and sensual odour. The shelf life is two years, and the oil is soluble in alcohol and fixed oils. Batch-specific values are given on the COA.
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place away from heat and direct sunlight. Close the cap straight after each use, because air and light speed up oxidation and dull the aroma over time. Stored well, the oil keeps its quality for the full two year shelf life.
Civet essential oil is for external use only. Do not ingest it. Always dilute it before applying it to the skin, do a patch test first, and avoid direct sunlight on treated skin. Keep it away from children and pets, and consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant or nursing. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
