Juniper Berry Essential Oil is steam distilled from the dried, crushed berries of Juniperus communis, with a fresh, woody, peppery aroma and balsamic pine undertones. It is used in diffusers, diluted massage and body oils, men’s fragrances, soaps, candles and room sprays. It is a clear, thin liquid with a two year shelf life, and COA and MSDS are available on request.
Juniper Berry Essential Oil is the aromatic oil recovered from juniper berries by steam distillation. RV Organica’s Juniper Berry Essential Oil is a colourless to pale yellow, clear and mobile liquid, packed at our facility in Nimbri, Panipat, Haryana, and offered in sizes from 100 ml to 25 kg.
Juniper berries are the small, blue-black cones of Juniperus communis, an evergreen shrub that grows across cool, hilly regions. The berries are dried and crushed so their oil glands open, and steam is then passed through them. The steam carries the volatile aroma compounds away, and when it cools, the oil separates from the water and is collected. No solvents are used.
The scent comes mainly from α-pinene at 30 to 50 percent and β-myrcene at 5 to 20 percent, with sabinene, limonene, β-pinene and terpinen-4-ol also present. α-Pinene gives the oil its crisp, forest-like pine character, while terpinen-4-ol and sabinene add a peppery, slightly spicy depth. ISO 8897:2010 specifies characteristics used to assess the quality of juniper berry oil, and the COA for your batch is the document to read against it.
Juniper berry smells fresh, woody and peppery, with a clean balsamic-pine note and a faint hint of the berry itself. It is crisper and drier than cedarwood and brighter than frankincense. The scent suggests cool forest air and gin botanicals, which is why it is so popular in fresh, masculine and outdoor-style blends.
Add a few drops to a diffuser for a clean, woody, forest-like atmosphere. It suits studies, workspaces, hallways and bathrooms, and works well in cooler months. For a grounded woody mix, blend it with cedarwood essential oil. For a softer herbal one, pair it with clary sage essential oil. Our diffuser oils collection has more ideas for pairing.
Always dilute juniper berry oil before it touches the skin. It dissolves in alcohol and fixed oils but not in water, so mix it into a carrier oil first. The right ratio depends on how much you are making and where it will be used, and our essential oil dilution calculator works it out for you. Once diluted, it adds a fresh woody note to massage oils, body oils, bath products and toners.
Yes. In soap and body care bases, add it at the level your formulation recommends. In candles, test a small batch first, because scent throw changes with wax type and wick size. In perfumery it works as a crisp top-to-middle note that brings a fresh, evergreen lift to masculine, aromatic and fougère-style compositions. It pairs well with cypress, bergamot, grapefruit, lavender, frankincense and cedarwood, and it suits blends in our woody fragrances style. It is also a natural choice for room sprays and linen mists.
The botanical name is Juniperus communis, the CAS number is 8002-68-4 and the FEMA number is 2603. The oil has a specific gravity of 0.862 to 0.879, a refractive index of 1.474 to 1.484 at 20°C, a flash point above 38°C, an acid value of up to 1.5 mg KOH/g and moisture content of up to 0.1 percent. It is a clear, thin liquid with a fresh, woody, peppery odour and balsamic-pine undertones. It dissolves in one volume to four volumes of 90 percent ethanol and is insoluble in water. The shelf life is two years.
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place away from heat and direct sunlight. Oxidised terpene-rich oils like juniper can irritate the skin more easily, so close the cap straight after each use. Stored well, the oil keeps its quality for the full two year shelf life.
Juniper berry essential oil is for external use only. Do not ingest it. Always dilute it in a carrier oil before applying it to the skin, do a patch test first, and avoid direct sunlight on treated skin. Keep it away from children and pets, and avoid use during pregnancy. If you are nursing or have any medical condition, consult a doctor before use. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
