It is used in diffusers, diluted massage and body oils, hair and scalp blends, soaps, room sprays and perfumery. It is a thin, colourless to pale yellow liquid with a two year shelf life, and COA and MSDS are available on request.
Sweet Basil Essential Oil is the aromatic oil recovered from sweet basil leaves and flowering tops by steam distillation. RV Organica’s Sweet Basil Essential Oil is an Indian-origin, colourless to pale yellow, thin liquid with a bright, clean herbal scent, packed at our facility in Nimbri, Panipat, Haryana, and offered in sizes from 100 ml to 25 kg.
Sweet basil is the culinary basil used in kitchens worldwide, botanically Ocimum basilicum. It is not the same plant as tulsi or holy basil, which is Ocimum tenuiflorum and yields a different oil. For sweet basil oil, the leaves and flowering tops are harvested and steam is passed through them. The steam carries the volatile aroma compounds away, and when it cools, the oil separates from the water and is collected. No solvents are used.
Sweet basil oil is made in different types, and this one is the linalool type. Our specification lists linalool at 40 to 75 percent and eugenol at 5 to 15 percent, along with 1,8-cineole and β-caryophyllene. Linalool gives the oil its smooth, sweet floral-herbal character, while eugenol and 1,8-cineole add warmth and a fresh lift. The other main type is rich in methyl chavicol, which IFRA standards restrict in fragrance products, so the linalool type is the more flexible choice for formulators. The COA for your batch shows the exact profile, including methyl chavicol content.
Sweet basil smells fresh, sweet and herbaceous, like crushed basil leaves, with a soft floral edge and a hint of warm spice underneath. It is greener and lighter than most spice oils and livelier than lavender. In blends it adds a clean herbal lift that makes floral and citrus oils feel more natural and less sugary.
Add a few drops to a diffuser for a crisp, green and herbal atmosphere. It suits kitchens, studies, workspaces and living areas, and it works well in spring and summer blends. Its scent is strong, so start with a small amount. For a soft herbal-floral mix, pair it with lavender essential oil, or with geranium essential oil for a rounder, rosy one. Our diffuser oils collection has more combinations to try.
Always dilute basil oil before it touches the skin. It dissolves in alcohol and fixed oils but not in water, so mix it into a carrier oil first. The right ratio depends on how much you are making and where it will be used, and our essential oil dilution calculator works it out for you. Once diluted, it adds a fresh herbal note to massage oils, body oils and bath products. In hair care, a small amount in a suitable carrier gives hair oils and mists a clean, herbal scent. Browse our scalp oils to see how herbal oils fit into hair routines.
Yes. In soap and body care bases, add it at the level your formulation recommends. In candles and room sprays, test a small batch first, because herbal scents are light and scent throw changes with wax type and wick size. In perfumery it works as a green, aromatic top-to-middle note and pairs well with bergamot, lavender, geranium, lemon, clary sage, cedarwood and frankincense. It is a natural fit for fresh, herbal and fougère-style compositions. Always check IFRA standards for your product category when setting usage levels.
The botanical name is Ocimum basilicum, the CAS number is 8015-73-4 and the FEMA number is 2119. The oil has a flash point above 68°C, an acid value of up to 1.5 mg KOH/g and moisture content of up to 0.3 percent. It is a thin liquid, colourless to pale yellow, with a fresh, sweet, herbaceous odour. The shelf life is two years, and the oil is soluble in alcohol and fixed oils and insoluble in water. Batch-specific values are given on the COA.
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place away from heat and direct sunlight. Close the cap straight after each use, because air and light speed up oxidation and dull the aroma over time. Stored well, the oil keeps its quality for the full two year shelf life.
Sweet basil essential oil is for external use only. Do not ingest it. Always dilute it in a carrier oil before applying it to the skin, do a patch test first, and avoid direct sunlight on treated skin. Its eugenol content can irritate sensitive skin, so use it sparingly. Keep it away from children and pets, and consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant or nursing. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Yes. The oil is available in 100 ml, 500 ml, 1 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg, 20 kg and 25 kg packs, which suits home users, small makers and manufacturers. COA and MSDS can be requested for each batch. For wholesale or private label enquiries, write to info@rvorganica.com.
