The Cananga tree flowers are harvested fresh and steam distilled that's what gives Ylang Ylang oil its depth. The tree is native to tropical climates India, Malaysia, parts of Australia. The smell is rich and floral with a slight fruitiness to it the kind that's been used in perfumery for decades as a top note in fine fragrances. Put a few drops in a diffuser and the whole room changes character. The tension that builds up through the day it just lifts. Hard to explain until you've tried it.
Linalool is what makes Ylang Ylang useful for skin it's a natural compound with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties that actually show results. Got oily skin or breakouts? It helps. Skin that reacts easily? It settles that too. One thing never put it on undiluted. Before applying, stir a few drops into jojoba or coconut oil never use it directly on skin.
Dry scalp, dull hair Ylang Ylang addresses both without much effort. It shows up in a lot of natural shampoos for good reason consistent use and you notice it.
Outside of skin and hair, it goes into soaps, massage oils, bath blends, and homemade cosmetics. The scent is reason enough to keep it around but most people stay for what it actually does.
